The Caspian Sea is potentially one of the largest oil and gas producing areas of the world, but the region as a whole remains a complex one for explorationists, a situation which is further compounded by the political complications inherent within the region. This map is essential, therefore, for a better understanding of the area. The 2009 edition has been fully researched and revised to provide an accurate depiction of the Caspian as a whole, with special emphasis on major recent international projects in oil and gas exploration and production, situated both onshore and offshore in the northern Caspian. Also featured are two insets showing an overview of the Black Sea/ Caspian Sea area and another showing a detailed section of the SW Kazakhstan coastal zone.
